Student Pledge
By Debra Angstead of Missouri-NEA
I promise to read
Each day and each night.
I know it's the key
To growing up right.
I'll read to myself,
I'll read to a crowd.
It makes no difference
If silent or loud.
I'll read at my desk,
At home and at school,
On my bean bag or bed,
By the fire or pool.
Each book that I read
Puts smarts in my head,
'Cause brains grow more thoughts
The more they are fed.
So I take this oath
To make reading my way
Of feeding my brain
What it needs every day.
I promise to read on NEA's Read Across America and Dr. Seuss's
birthday on March 2, 2010, and help the National Education
Association and Sylvan Learning to encourage children to read
across North America.
Parent and Educator Pledge
I join the National Education Association and Sylvan Learning in encouraging students to read across North America by developing a love of reading and celebrating their reading successes on March 2, 2010.
In honor of NEA's Read Across America and Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2, 2010, I promise to help children discover that reading can be fun and encourage their literacy efforts throughout the year.
I believe reading is one of life's most important, most personal, most meaningful skills. I believe that successful readers hold infinite possibilities in their hands, enabling them to fulfill their full potential.
